Douglas D. Gransberg, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE, founder and president of Active Continuing Education Systems LLC, and a consultant and academic, has been named a Fellow by the ASCE Board of Direction.
Gransberg has made significant contributions to civil, military and construction engineering as well as construction engineering education and research over his 45-year career.
As president of Gransberg & Associates Inc., a construction management / project delivery consulting firm, he has been active in the heavy civil infrastructure construction industry. His work on complex project management, alternative contracting methods and risk analysis has been implemented by 13 state departments of transportation. He has also been involved as a consultant on more than 20 complex megaprojects in the U.S., Panama, Okinawa and New Zealand.
Gransberg has been an active participant in the ASCE continuing education program since 1996, developing and delivering courses in construction engineering–related fields in the U.S. and overseas. He also developed and is delivering the ASCE Construction Institute’s Certificate in Construction Engineering, one of ASCE’s first guided online programs.
He has authored over 200 journal articles and four books, and his work has provided the basis for the legislation in four states enabling alternative project delivery methods for public buildings and infrastructure. He also wrote AASHTO’s handbooks on partnering, design-build contracting and construction manager / general contractor project delivery.
Gransberg’s academic and research accomplishments have been recognized by the awarding of two endowed professorships at the University of Oklahoma, an endowed chair in construction engineering at Iowa State University and a fellowship at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand.
